geomCheck 1.1
Description
'geomCheck' is a plugin for Cinema 4D.
The purpose of geomCheck is to check the geometry of polygon objects to detect and report defects in the mesh.
This plugin is available for free. However, please do not distribute copies to anyone. Instead, please direct them to this
site to download it. This is to ensure that people will always get the most recent version, and also because I am interested in
knowing how many people are using it.
To install, download the file, and unzip the contents into your 'Plugins' directory.
Start Cinema4D, and in the Plugins menu you should find an entry for 'GeomCheck'.
Under this are two options; 'Full Checks' and 'Polygon checks only'.
To use, simply select the object that you wish to check, and select 'GeomCheck->Full Checks' from the menu.
'geomCheck' will then check for the following problems:-
- Open Edges / Cracks
- Degenerate triangles ('Slivers')
- Degenerate Quads ('Slivers')
- Badly wound Quads (Create unneccesary shading artefacts)
- Reversed normals.
- Polygons with bad vertex structure.
- Polygons with co-located vertices.
A list of all defects found will be displayed in the console tab, all defective polygons will be
selected, and all vertices which are associated with open edges/cracks will be selected.
Use convert selection vertices -> edges to see the edges directly. (Note: This is not done automatically
because this plugin is written in Coffee which cannot access edge selections).
Full checking can take a long time with complex meshes, which is why the 'Polygon Checks only' option
is provided. This only checks polygon structure, and doesn't check for open edges or reversed normals, but runs very quickly.
For full details and examples read the documentation.
If you find this plugin useful, then please consider purchasing one of the other plugins from this site.
('spinPoly' is particularly useful for fixing several of the problems that 'geomCheck' detects...)
